Happy Election Day!
We are excited to announce that we have a new student in our room. His name is Ryan S. His first day was today. The kids were very excited to welcome a new friend to our room.
Morning Meeting-We introduced ourselves to our new student and shared something fun we did over the weekend for our quick share. We introduced our new AlphaFriend "Tiggy Tiger" today. We shared 5 family photos today. If your child shared his/her family photo, then I sent home the baby clothes and picture. Please look for them in their backpacks. Today was Logan, Charlie, Gavin, Rayna and Cooper.
*New homework was sent home today for the letter Tt.
Specials-We had art today. We used clay and we painted with Mrs. Karg.
Shared Reading-We read a poem called "Some Families". We practiced our blending skills and we also looked for rhyming words.
Read Aloud-We read "Arthur Meets the President".
Reading Activity-We reviewed the letter sounds "S-M-R". We took a practice assessment on those sounds. The practice came home today. Then we went to our independent learning spots and took the assessment on the sounds.
Rest Time-We had Independent Reading during rest time
Math-We did calendar and workjobs. Many students have now finished the first set of workjobs and are starting on the second set. The first set had patterns, number matching, number order, number recognition for numbers 1-12. The second set has similar activities, but we are working on numbers 1-100. The first few sets of workjobs are working on numbers 1-31. The last sets go all the way up to 100. Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped today-Dawn, Beth and John.
Social-We talked about the election today. I introduced the presidential candidates. We talked about the voting process. Then we had our own kindergarten presidential election. I set up a voting booth. Each student came up to the voting booth and voted on a ballet and put the ballet in the secret ballet box. Then they got a "I Voted" sticker to wear. We talked about how voting is private and you don't have to tell who you voted for. We also talked about how old they had to be to vote in a real presidential election. We had our secret ballot counter, (Ben's dad), count our votes. Fourteen of our students voted for Barack Obama and 8 voted for John McCain. The students really enjoyed "voting". It was very fun! Happy voting everyone!
