Sept. 12

Morning Meeting-We did the Silly Pirate Song for our movement activity. We love it! For our quick share we shared our favorite part of the Silly Pirate Song.
Read Aloud-The Three Little Pigs-This was a different version-at the end the wolf had to apologize and help the pigs rebuild their houses.
Shared Reading-Nursery Rhymes-Jack & Jill and Hey Diddle, Diddle
Specials-We had music with Mrs. Engbloom
Reading activity-We were illustrators for our own versions of the 3 Little Pigs. We retold our story to an adult before putting it in our cubbies. Please have your child retell their story to you. Many of them were very excited to add a little bit of a twist...an extra house...
Rest Time-We listened to The 3 Little Pigs. This was the same version we read this morning, but the cd added songs to the story.
Math-Eating to Zero-Each student got 20 pieces of popcorn. We practiced counting forward and back to 20. Then we started eating one piece at a time. I introduced subtraction and the phrase "taking one away". After eating one piece, we wrote the new number on our whiteboards. We practiced counting, writing numbers and introduced subtraction...all while eating a little popcorn.
Science-We have had a little visitor in our room a couple of times this year-my caterpillar, Inchy. Today we took a closer look at Inchy. We are making a caterpillar book. Today we made our cover. We also looked closely at Inchy and drew his picture and wrote his name (some of my kids told me that they can tell he is a boy). Then we predicted what Inchy will look like when he changes. They are very excited about our little class pet.
*On Monday, I will have a substitute teacher in the afternoon from 11:30 until 2:40. If you have a change in dismissal, make sure you call and talk to a person because my sub will not have access to my voice mail or email. I will be in a meeting at the Community Center.
Have a great Weekend!!!
