Sept. 22

Morning Meeting-We did the song Macarana Months. We did the movements while we sang the months of the year. Our quick share was our favorite months. Winter was the winner-interesting.
Specials-We had music
Read Aloud-Three Little Kittens
Shared Reading-LIttle Miss Muffet & Hickory Dickory dock
Reading Activities-We introduced the letters Kk and Ll. We did a rhyming words activity.
Writer's workshop-We talked about using more detail in our drawings. I told a story and then drew pictures to match my story and then I wrote my words. This time my story had more ideas on it. I encouraged the students to add more details and ideas into their drawings. This would help them tell their stories better. At the end we shared our stories.
Rest Time-We listened to the story Marsupial Sue.
Math-Calendar with calendar books. We played a partner game called "feel and count" . I put blocks in lunch bags. The students had to feel and count the blocks without looking and then write the number on their white board. Then their partner did the same thing. They compared numbers and then dumped out the blocks and counted them to see if they were correct. After counting 5 or 6 bags we discussed which bags were easier and which were harder. We decided that the bags containing the smallest amounts of blocks were easier than the ones with lots of blocks inside.
Science-We started talking about different parts of the body today to go along with our reading theme "Look at Us" . We found many different parts of our bodies and then talked about what we use them for. We read the book "Let's Look at Bodies". Then we made our own body book to take home. It included our hands, our fingerprints and a picture of our feet. We also tried to write the words for these parts.
**Picture Day- Thursday, September 25-Please remember to return your picture money by Thursday.
