Sept. 23

Morning Meeting-Back by popular demand, we did "Going on a Bear Hunt" for our movement activity. This time we went to different places on our way to the bear cave...a bridge, the mud, a deep, dark forest, a big lake and a volcano. The kids love it when we find the bear in the cave and have to run back to our house. They want to do it again right away. For our quick share we shared the favorite gym activity they did today.
Specials-We went to Phy. Ed. and library today. In Phy. Ed., we had a choice day. The students got to choose from basketball, football, frisbee along with a few other options.
Read Aloud-Now I Am Big
shared Reading-Little Bo Peep and a poem "Once I was a baby..."
Reading Activity-I introduced the letters Mm & Nn. The students brainstormed ideas of things they could do when they were babies and things they can do now that they are big kids. Then we drew pictures of our ideas in our kindergarten memory books.
Writers Workshop-We didn't have time today
Rest Time-We listened to "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" and "Clifford goes Apple Picking".

Special Activity-Sarah, an instructor from ACE, visited our classroom today. She did movement activities with us. First we did name clapping. Then we did the Bubble Gum song. The kids loved this one. I lead four verses of Hickory Dickory Dock using different movements up the clock. Then we did a Shake and Freeze song. Sarah introduced five different instruments. She picked 5 students to be musicians to play the instruments. She was the conductor. She would start the instruments playing and the other students would shake different parts of their body. Then we switched to all students got a chance to be musicians. Last, we played a partner game. We made body sculptures. The students really enjoyed having Sarah visit. She will be visiting again on Thursday.
We ended our day with some free choice time.
