Sept. 8

Our new themes this week are bus safety and Nursery Rhymes.
Center Time-We had a pop-up bus and a bus game out for free choice time today. The kids could pretend to ride in the bus. During center time I started doing the kindergarten pre-assessments. I am assessing letter recognition- upper and lower case, rhyming words, beginning letter sounds, sight words, number recognition, counting to 50 and counting by 10's. The students will have more free choice playtime this week while I am individually testing each student. We will use these results to plan curriculum. It will help me plan mini lessons for our reading time. It will also help the kindergarten team to determine which students qualify for Title 1 services.
Morning Meeting-movement-Wheels on the bus Quick share-fun thing he/she did over the weekend.
Read Aloud-Seals on the Bus
Special Visitors-Mrs. Petersmeyer and Mrs. Wharram visited and talked about important school wide rules for the hallways, lunchroom and playground. They also talked about being a Star Student. They talked about being kind to others. They did the broken heart activity-they talked about how words can hurt hearts.
Project-Animals on the bus-Each student made a bus out of construction paper and drew animals peeking out the windows to go along with our Seals on the Bus story.

*We had extra play time today so I could work on individual assessments.
