Sept. 26

Sunflowers! Sunflowers! Sunflowers!
We had a very fun and busy sunflower day.
Morning Meeting-We shared our sunflowers during morning meeting along with our sunflower stories. We took pictures with our sunflowers too. If someone didn't have a sunflower, another student shared their sunflower. We sang the Sunflower song that we learned last year at Round-up.
Specials-We had music with Mrs. Engbloom in the keyboard lab upstairs. The students got to play music on a keyboard. They were very excited.
Read Aloud-We read "The Sunflower House" and "A Sunflower Grows Up".
Reading Activities-We were illustrators for our own sunflower book. We practiced reading the words using our illustrations to help us if we couldn't remember a word. Then we read the book using partners.
*We also painted a sunflower. We are going to add real sunflower seeds to our painting on Monday.
Writer's Workshop-We wrote about our own sunflower stories. We could write what we know about sunflowers or write our own planting story.
Rest Time-We listened to "A Sunflower as Big as the Sun".
Math-Calendar
We made sunflowers as big as us. We measured how tall we are with a string and then we made our sunflower the same height as us.
We also picked out seeds from our sunflowers to use in math later. They loved doing this.
We ended the day with a podcast that Sophia made with her dad, Steve. It told the story of them planting and growing Sophia's sunflowers. It was great! Thanks for sharing with us. We hope to watch it again-the projector didn't work today. Steve got it working after the students left for the bus, so we are going to try again
***Find Leaves for Monday!!!***Please have your child bring in some fall leaves.
